Cures for Heartbreak
A new novel by Margo Rabb Cures for Heartbreak is like reading someone's diary and finding out more than you care to know. Even if I knew Mia personally, I wouldn't care to know this much about her. But perhaps you would. Basically the story is about a 15 year old girl and how she copes with the death of her mother, coming of age, her father re-marrying and fighting with her sister. This author has published numerous stories in a variety of publications according to the book jacket. Maybe those are more interesting than this
A Friend at Midnight
A Friend at Midnight is Caroline B. Cooney's (of The Face on the Milk Carton fame) latest entry into teen fiction. Actually, I enjoyed this story. It's about a middle child who takes a stand and courageously saves a sibling from a despicable situation. It's also about Luke 6:32. It is a quick read but an inspiring one.
A Room on Lorelei Street
What's in a room? For 17-year old Zoe Beth it's not just a place to sleep--it's more of a place to stop, look at your life and ultimately make some permanent changes. It's a place to realize that a person needs to look inside herself and decide what's important and what can be left behind. This book is filled with some typical teenage angst--alcoholic parents, a dysfunctional family of aunts, uncles and grandparent, trouble with a teacher at school, some rebellious behavior and betrayal of a friend. However, there are some moments of fresh air and optimism. This isn't a GREAT novel but it is one that looks at life straight in the eye! Mary E. Pearson is the author of two other novels for teens, David v. God and Scribbler of Dreams.
